So, you managed to survive the first wave of Zombies. [Are You Fit Enough To Survive?]
You used Key Exercise Principles and Foundational Movement Patterns to ensure you escaped unharmed.
Puffing, you look back behind you and realize …
Your best friend is NOT behind you
Staring at the circling zombies, you realize you have no choice
Mates are forever.
You run back.
But you’re not even sure if you can get both of you out of there!
Hot on the back of our last Zombie Survival Article [Are You Fit Enough To Survive?], this week we’re going to show you how to get your friend out alive!
- Encouragement!
You remember back when you started running, your bestie was yelling something at you – in the moment, all you could hear was the sound of your own fear but their words cut through – and you ran faster! If you’re going to get your mate out of there now, start warming up those lungs with words of encouragement – it’ll help them run that little bit faster! FYI – we have JUST the place you can practice that this weekend!
- Decoy
You’ve already alerted the Zombies to your presence, so unfortunately your mate is being descended upon a lot quicker than you. It’s up to you to provide a decoy to trick those Zombie-Heads. You’re going to need to be quick and agile as we talked about here [link to last zombie article]. Grab yourself some small orange cones and practice running in a zig zag. Now. Like Yesterday. Your mates’ life is at stake here!
- Uh oh, they’ve fallen and can’t get up
Last week we gave you the 101 on what to practice so you could always get up quickly after a fall. But your mate didn’t read that article and now they need you to pick them up and carry them to safety. You’re going to need to learn the basics of getting a dead weight off the ground and above your head/shoulders – The practice of deadlifts, power cleans, jerks along with weighted squats and lunges will get you strong to help pick up your friend (Bonus you’ll also get a good functioning fit body too!)
- Emotions
Your mate is distraught, they’re trying to hold back the tears but the bottom lip is quivering. They’re so annoyed at their lack of fitness and almost getting both of you killed. You’re a good friend though, and you let them share the emotion and comfort them when you get to safety. You re-assure your friend that fitness can be improved and you guys are safe now.
- They have better snacks … and the keys to the car
Let’s be honest here, you saved your mate because they had better survival snacks, and the keys to the car and if they die, then you die. But that’s ok – your self-serving motivation got you and your friend out of there alive! Don’t forget to always take friends with you on exercise excursions for their snacks and vehicles.
Having friends with you during fitness experiences is always a good time (unless you have to go back and rescue them from Zombies).
If you follow these points you will be a good friend in fitness and breeze through saving your mates at the Zombie Apocalypse this Saturday.
