Trends come and go, but one trend that we absolutely love is Fitbit. Before I launch into why this wee device is so great I just wanted to let you know that you can earn yourself a free Fitbit! Click here for the details
Here are five reasons why we love Fitbit
It’s What You Do Consistently That Counts
When it comes to weight loss, we are lead to believe that if we just burn a bunch of calories in our workout that this is the winning factor in weight reduction. When we exercise, we use a mix of glucose and fat in varying ratios; just moving around at low intensity or resting these ratios change. There are 24 hours in the day, and they ALL count.
Fitbit tracks all your active minutes – not just the ones spent busting a gut. For fat loss, we want to see a good supply of active minutes, which are things like walking up stairs instead of elevators, walking down to the corner shop instead of driving and so on.
Depending on which model you choose, Fitbit also monitors your sleep; poor sleep leads to hormone imbalances that can seriously affect energy, fat loss and muscle gain. Did you know we utilize a lot of fat while we sleep?
Fitbit is right there with you tracking your consistency in activity and quality sleep, which will ultimately utilize more fat calories over the whole 24 hour period.
Connect With Others
It’s all well and good to post about your workouts on Facebook and Instagram – but not all your friends are necessarily into the same things. What Fitbit allows you is a space where you can connect with those on the same mission as you without being unfriended.
This brings me to the next point
Fun Stuff
While you’re connecting with others you can earn badges of achievement, set challenges and use these things as another form of motivation. Let’s face it, sometimes we don’t feel like exercising, but if you were a few points away from achieving a badge, you might be more inclined to go for it!
One Place For Everything
You can track and monitor your workouts, nutrition, sleep, progress and what everyone else is up too in one place. In a world full of new apps every day it’s nice to just have one spot to store everything. Overwhelm can be a bit stressful on the nervous system and we want to keep our nervous system as happy as possible for optimal fitness results.
Motivation For Everyone
Everyone is motivated by something different; and Fitbit allows for those differences:
- Unlocking badges and playing the “game”
- Achieving personal milestones and challenging yourself with steps or calories.
- Being part of a community of Fitbitters (I know, that’s not a word)
- Understanding your body better (eg sleep and general activity)
- Watching progress on graphs.
Whatever motivates you, Fitbit seems to be able to provide it. We think Fitbit is a great little device, which is why we use them and why we’re giving them away for free this month.
